Description

Welcome, NEONIXIE-L friends!

Up for auction is this beautiful, nicely planned and executed (well, please read on), half-way finished,

"""BRUSHED STAINLESS STEEL nixie clock CASE""

(case only, minor minor flaw, please read on).

NO RESERVE!

Fits Tubehobby NCV2.1-18 (IN-18) Nixie Clock Kit - Additional work required, related to the normal fitting of the kit in the case.  In other words, this is not like "plug and play", think of it as a half-way finished artisan piece of work which, with the proper attention, might fit your project perfectly.

AUCTION IS FOR BRUSHED STAINLESS STEEL CASE ONLY, complete clock is featured in the pictures just to show that it will fit the Tubehobby kit just fine.

PLEASE READ ON!  In my humble opinion, this case has one minor flaw, which makes it less than perfect for me.  This minor flaw (minimally off center holes) might just be nothing for you and therefore you will end up with a great looking, rare to come by, brushed stainless steel case to fit your clock.

There are no scratches in the brushed stainless steel, it was handled very carefully from the beginning.

This is not a series piece, this is a one-of-a-kind enclosure I built from scratch to receive the Tubehobby kit I built.  It was inspired by the beautiful Chronotronix clock - or at least that's what I wanted it to look approximately like - this one's a bit taller because I used sockets for the tubes.

Here's the story:  I was very, very picky from the beginning regarding this case.  I wanted it to be PERFECT, a piece of art.  Nothing less.  However, stainless steel is very hard to drill, and due to a little recklessness on the part of the person who drilled the holes in it, they ended up just minimally (let me stress that - MINIMALLY) off center in regards with the sockets I had in place (instead of simple pins) for the beautiful IN-18 Nixie tubes.  This millimetrical flaw (nearly unnoticeable) made me give up on this case and want to start another one also from scratch.

Sockets are not required for the case to work.  You might as well use pins.  (Coming to think of it, it might well be my sockets, and not the holes themselves, which are slightly off center.  I can't be sure since I have the sockets in place, so my only option would be to build another stainless steel case that fits my bill perfectly.)

The third and fourth pictures show the minor flaw I'm referring to.  Please note on picture 4 the very small difference in the centering of the holes which made me mad.  That's it.

Yes, that's just one or two millimeters (1/32 to 1/16 of an inch) off track, not even enough to keep the sockets or the bare tubes from fitting.  Yes, they will fit and the enclosure will work, just like it's shown in the pictures.

This was enough to make my perfection-oriented self to lose interest in continuing the project, but it might be just fine for other persons.  My friends keep telling me to stop being *ana_lly retentive* about it and finish the project at once, but, again, I wanted it perfect from the beginning and so there's how it will be.

I have decided to sell it and build another one just like this, this time being a tad more careful in who I hire to drill the holes.  Most probably, I'll do it myself even if it takes me weeks to do it.

Size:  280x100x50 (millimeters), or  11" x 4" x 2" (inches)

Holes are 31 millimeters (1" and 7/32) in diameter, just barely larger than the IN-18 tube (30 millimeters)

Weight:  944 grams  (2 pounds approximately)

Made with 2 millimeter-thick (1/16") brushed steel plates.

It will fit Tubehobby's IN-18 kit, one of the best nixie clock kits ever made.  It might take you a little normal work to finish the required adjustments, but you will end up with a rare, beautiful brushed stainless steel enclosure for your clock.

Four nuts were soldered in the inner part of the case, in order to make it simple for the clock parts to be held inside using screws (all included).

Item is in Brasilia, Brazil, and so am I.  Buyer is responsible for shipping expenses.  Additional and more detailed pictures gladly sent upon request.  Please feel free to ask any questions or to make any comments or request additional information.
